Final Match-ups are Set!!! SJU v. Nova / Rowan v. Cabrini

Posted: April 25, 2010 9:07PM; Updated: April 26, 2010 1:21AM Eighteen Sunday nights. One-hundred and forty-nine games. And it all comes down to one final Sunday for all the marbles.
On Sunday night, April 25, four teams in Tier I and four teams in Tier II had one thought on their minds: advancing to the championship. By the end of the evening the match-ups were completed.
Rowan University got the ball rolling first by dispatching a game Drexel 2 team. While the teams had to go to overtime earlier in the season, this night was all Rowan. The Profs and Dragons traded goals in the first period, but after that Rowan had the rink tilted in their favor. Nine different players factored in the scoring for Rowan who won handily, 7-2.
St. Joe's was up next, facing a Drexel 1 squad that had struggled with the high-powered Hawks offense in the regular season. Again, the Hawks proved to have too much firepower, and when called upon the defense and goaltending made sure to shut the door. The Dragons' late rally wasn't enough to overcome the Hawks lead, and St. Joe's moved on with a 7-4 victory.
Perhaps the most anticipated semi-final match-up saw Cabrini and West Chest square off in a Tier II battle. The Rams had ridden a 4-game win streak towards the end of the season, but had dropped the final game of the season to the Cavs, and had revenge on their mind. Unfortunately, it was the Cavs' night, as they powered their way to a 9-5 win, and earned another trip to the finals.
The most intriguing match-up of the evening was the Villanova v. Penn State Brandywine game. The Wildcats had quietly put together a solid regular season, but then trounced Widener in the quarterfinals. PSU had a rough regular season, but shocked 2nd ranked Penn in the quarters. The match-up had 'question mark' written all over it, but 'Nova quickly answered those questions with 7 unanswered goals in the middle of the game. Bookended by one PSU goal at the start and two at the end, the offensive burst from 'Nova was more than enough.
