Championship Sunday SET!

SJU v. Penn, Kutztown v. Widener

 April 24th, 2013 at 6:17AM
After another long and hard-fought season, the PCRHL Championships are finally upon us!

In Tier I, St. Joseph's returns to the "big game" for the fifth time in the last five years, and the Hawks will be looking to claim their fourth championship.  After a nearly perfect season (marred only by an OTL to Penn), SJU is the odds on favorite to win the title.  On the other hand, Penn has seen a resurgence this season.  They dropped a championship series to the Hawks in 2009, but look to avenge that loss.  The fact that they were the only team in Tier I to gain a point from the Hawks this season means that the Quakers are legitimately the biggest threat to St. Joe's title run.  Penn will have their hands full, but just might have figured out the secret to the SJU success.

In Tier II, the story is offense versus defense.  Kutztown mowed through the Tier II competition this year, scoring a mighty 92 goals in only 12 games.  Their 11-1 record (the only loss was a T1 crossover game) has them looking down at the rest of the T2 pack.  However, Widener is looking to counter punch with their incredibly stingy, and league leading, 2.72 GAA.  This match-up could end up going either way, and since these two teams did not play a regular season game against each other, the odds are even until the drop of the puck.
Both series are best-of-3, and will take place on Sunday 4/28.
Tier I:  SJU v. Penn (6pm, 8pm, 10pm* if needed)
